Most Common Logo Properties
There are many successful logos out there. Recently while creating a logo for a client I was doing some research, and started to take notice of the most common properties of a successful logo. In my opinion a Logotype is the most common in regards to the most recognized logos in the world.
In basic design, there are 3 types of logos. Symbol, Logotype and Combination.

Symbol’s are instantly recognizable to the public. The tricky part, is getting them to that point. Most of these companies shown above have had a logo that has evolved over time. Starting with a combination of text and symbol. Then eventually removing the text. It also helps, when you have a product that is sold all over the world, to thousands of people.

A logotype in my opinion is the most common (for the highest recognized companies). Often featuring a customized font. These seem to be some of the most successful, because there is no guesswork for someone who doesn’t recognize the logo. The company name is right there.
I am not going to bother showing examples the third type, combination, because it is simply a combination of symbol and typography. These are the most common for small businesses and startup companies. With their goals simply being brand recognition. In the entire world of logo’s, these probably are the most common, but in regards to the top brands in the world, I don’t believe this is the case, and I stand by my statement that a logotype is the most common, when it comes to highly recognized companies.
