Artist Spotlight: Brom

Tuesday, February 26th, 2008

Post11 ImageSince college, one of my favorite artists has been a man named Brom. His dark, and sometimes disturbing imagery is not for everyone. Personally, I am a huge fan of Tim Burton movies, so that may explain why I am drawn to such a style. Nonetheless, Brom is a fantastic illustrator and his work can be seen in more places that you may have realized.

Below are a few of my favorite pieces.

Post10 ImageI found the coolest mirror the other day online. It has a etched mustache, and I am wanting one soooo much. I just want to tell everyone how cool this thing is.

The same site also has some really neat artsy accessories and clothing. My favorite is these recycled pop-can bracelets, that are severely over-priced, yet fantastic. From the looks of it, you can even choose what label you want.

Post06 ImageMost cities have old mural advertising on the side of any building created around the turn of the century. These forgotten pieces of art are often hidden right under your nose. Just recently I have decided to document as many as I could find.

It’s amazing how far the field of Graphic Design has come, and we are lucky to still have these pieces within our view.

Mac Leopard Update

Wednesday, February 13th, 2008

Post04 ImageYesterday Apple released an update. No big deal, right?

Wrong. Photoshop CS3 has been giving every designer I know, trouble. It freezes when applying blending options, dragging in Smart Objects and pretty much anything that seems to use a moderate amount of RAM. This results in many wasted hours of design time, when you need to Force Quit Photoshop once an hour, all day long.

Creating a Mosaic in Photoshop

Tuesday, February 12th, 2008

Post05 ImageI have a great tutorial for you here on turning an image into a mosaic using Photoshop.

There are a lot of different ways to do this, each with a different result. I’m not saying mine is the correct one, or even the best. It just has a really cool screen printed look when finished, which I really like.

Start of with the picture of your choice, then follow these steps.
